Entering the New Year, the Garasi Enterprise will present a new concept of performing art titled "Jogja Broadway Show", on 6th to 16th January , 2011 starts at 4 PM of local time and take place at the Societet Building, Taman Budaya Yogyakarta (TBY), jalan Sriwedani No. 1 Yogyakarta. This musical theater performance brought together the performing arts with tourism in ‘Broadway’ style to popularize the performing arts and tourism in Yogyakarta.
“Yogyakarta as a city of arts and tourism actually only have a few regular theatrical performances. For this reason, we had the idea to hold a new concept of performance in ‘Broadway’ style, which can be an alternative entertainment for the tourists visiting Yogyakarta. This could become a new tourism icon for the city," said Kusworo Bayu Aji, the Executive Producer of the Garasi Enterprise, to the press (4 / 1).
Aji explained that Jogja Broadway show is planned to become an annual event which will be held every major public holiday around May to June and December to January. The event is also a part of the “Yogyakarta Aman - Yogyakarta Safe” campaign, a movement to promote Yogyakarta tourism industry after the eruption of Merapi.
This first “Jogja Broadway Show” will performing a play entitled “Pangeran Bintang dan Putri Embun - the Star Prince and the Dew Princess” which includes various artists from theater actors and actresses, mime artists, musicians and other local artists as players. The event will be a mix of a modern and imaginative performance combining theater, dance, music and fine arts into one elaborate piece of art. There will also be Artists Merchandising exhibitions and a traditional performance called “Teriakkan Tradisimu! - Shout Aloud Your Traditions!” at the lobby of the Societet Building right before the play begin.
